Geez… Where to begin? I can tell you when we started. That would be June of 1995. At that point in time my brother and myself (Mike) were looking for a band member. We didn't really know too much of what we wanted. All we knew was that we wanted to create something that combined everything that we thought was funny, cool and creative. We didn't look to far to find our guy. His name was, and still is, Greg Pate. Greg was known to us through high school. He was an old buddy that we hung out with. We used to talk and laugh and make fun of everybody at school. We liked Greg and Greg liked us. The one thing that Greg really brought to the forefront was his uncanny ablility for humor. Everything that came out of this guys mouth was either funny or really, really funny. The fact that he played guitar, sang , wrote music, and wrote lyrics made him the natural choice for our, then untitled, supergroup. It came together rather quickly. We began writing and compiling songs for what would become our first release (Fetus Feast). The wheels, as they  say, were starting to turn.

The months go by and we are doing our thing. I remember it being a very joyous experience for all of us. Everyone got along and played their hearts out. It was pretty cool to understand that just months earlier we were destined to go to college, finish our degrees and just get fat doing it.

However much we didn't know what we were doing we just hung out and decided to go for it, full throttle. Theres a beauty in this… absolutely no thinking, just doing. I wish that everybody held that same attitude. It would make everybody so much less stressed. In and around this time we were thinking about our name. Whats it going to be? We wanted a name that not only sounded good but looked good as well. So with this in mind we went to our favorite place… Carrows. Charming, huh? Pete came up with the name and Greg actually drew up the prototype right there in the restaurant. In my opinion it sounded OK. However it looked even better. No matter where you stand you can see the name hitting you in the face. It looked good on a flyer and looked good on a t-shirt. Fans could chant it N-M-E!!!! Besides, all the "punk bands" used anacronyms in their names. Why not us? So it was decided that the next big thing would be called NME. It was a lot better than Wild Rice, our first thought for a bands name. Boy Im glad we stuck with NME. A lot of people like it as well. Its eye grabbing and people remember it. Ohh yeah B.T.W. NME does not stand for anything. Thank you.

So, we produced our first record (Fetus Feast) dirt cheap. It cost us about $350.00 to record and press about 50 cassettes. The sound was a direct reflection of the price….. not the best but we are proud of it. This record was Oxhead's first release. We sold it at the now defunct Pirate cat records and gave them away at shows. Looking back on it I was happy that we didn't sell them.

It would have been a ripoff! The years 97 and 98 saw us write and write until 2 albums length of material was done and released on one CD. That record was called "Music for making friends." You also have to take in mind that during these years, and up until recently, the band has gone through many bass players. In total, I think there were 6 of them. So, putting together a record was kind of tough. "Music for making friends" was a triumpth and to a point a celebration of what the band has gone through.

MFMF was our first "polished" CD. The second being " A little bit louder, and a whole lot worse." We got a little flack about this one, seeing as it is only 7 songs and about 15 minutes worth of material. The common complaint was that it wasn't as long as the other one. To me that is an understandable complaint, but the record was the best we could do at that point. It's kind of funny, but every time I listen to that record it strikes me as being far more intricate than the typical rock and roll record.

The current line up is this way. Ryan Roman on drums, Peter Skilj on bass guitar and vocals, and Mike Skilj on lead guitar and lead vocals. The band has seen many line up changes but it's finally finding solidarity in it's members. Stay tuned cause there is more to come!!!!!!!!
